Jaynel grew up on a small farm in the Pacific Northwest, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from the University Oregon where she was nominated for Copywriter of the Year. For eleven years, she has worked in the advertising industry as a copywriter and creative director for ad agencies in New York City and San Francisco. Her words have livened brand identities for Pepsi, MTV, Squaw Valley Resorts, PlumpJack Wines, Citibank, American Express, Microsoft, and Blue Shield of California. 


Jaynel’s short story fiction received scholarships to Centrum Writers Exchange and the University of Iowa. Recently she was offered acceptances to Creative Writing MFA programs at University of Pittsburgh,  Emerson, and Saint Mary’s of California (for both fiction and nonfiction genres).

Jaynel has been accepted to workshops at 	
Tin House and Squaw Valley Community of Writers, also on scholarship. She currently is  seeking an agent for her novel-length work of fiction, Accidental Scenery.

Recently, Jaynel was published by Harper Perennial in “Six Word Memoirs on Love and Heartbreak by Writers Famous and Obscure.” The book has received great press from the New York Post, Publisher’s Weekly and O The Oprah Magazine. Jaynel’s “memoir” was featured on NPR’s Talk of the Nation. Also, “The Regulars” will be published in the forthcoming June 2009 issue of decomP Magazine.

Jaynel has read her work for several San Francisco reading series, including Literary Death Match, InsideSTORY Time, dublit and VaRIOTee among others.

In addition, with no formal training, Jaynel is a commissioned artist. Her artwork can be found in private collections throughout the Bay Area, including the impressive Zoe Heights mural in San Francisco’s SOMA District, and Vertigo, now in the company of five original Picasso’s and one Matisse. Her next commission is one of her largest projects to date, slated for completion in September 2009.

Jaynel currently works out of the offices of The San Francisco Writers’ Grotto, a cooperative of creative professionals. Recently her story, My Wingman; My Dad was published in Smith Magazine’s My Life So Far,
and will be featured in their June 2009 Father’s Day issue.
